She visited with black soldiers, often at her own expense. The pictorial first-day postmark ties the Horne stamp and Sc. 3919, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt stamp from the Advances In Aviation set. The text explains that Gardner and Horne were good friends, Gardner and Sinatra remained good friends even after their divorce, but Horne and Sinatra didn’t like each other at all.
